Engineer's Checklist: 3 Common CAD Considerations in Custom Orders
To accelerate tooling setup and avoid production delays, ensure your engineering drawings account for the following stainless steel fabrication physics:
1. Bending Radius Limits
Centerline Radius (CLR) for mandrel tube bending should be ≥ 2x Outer Diameter. Tighter bends risk wall thinning or outer surface cracking.
2. Hole Distance to Edges
Hole edge distance to tube and profile ends should be ≥ 1.5x hole diameter. Placing punched holes too close to cut edges causes metal end deformation.
3. Weld Seam Orientation
For slot profiles or laser-punched posts, specify weld seam positioning in 3D STEP models so laser cuts avoid internal weld bead lines.
